Baldwin Wallace men right the ship

After a prolonged tailspin, the Baldwin Wallace men recovered in fine fashion against Marietta, at Tressel Field in Finney Stadium on Saturday night. Led by goals from freshmen Carlin Vandendriessche and Andy Thompson and with the result sealed by a goal from sophmore Tyler Leister, the Yellow Jacket men put a great ending to the 2008 Senior night, winning 3-1.
The result was two weeks in coming and was a fine way to celebrate the Senior's four years of success!

Great Job guys and thank you seniors!

Men achieve highest National ranking to date!

Tough victories over Calvin and Albion this past weekend have reaped great benefits for the BW men.
Not only did the double victories give the Yellow Jackets the OAC-MIAA Shootout trophy but they also allowed the men to move into the #1 Regional ranking spot. With the publication of the newest NSCAA rankings, the men have now jumped into the #7 spot Nationally! This breaks the previous high ranking of #10 held in the 4th week of the 2006 season.

7th-Ranked B-W Men’s Soccer Team Stays Unbeaten with a 2-1 Win Against Allegheny (Pa.) in Berea

The seventh-ranked Baldwin-Wallace College men’s soccer team stayed unbeaten and moved to 8-0-0 overall with a 2-1 victory against Allegheny College of Pennsylvania tonight (Wednesday, September 24, 2008) on the newly installed FieldTurf pitch of Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium in Berea.

The No.7 ranking for the Yellow Jackets is their best in school history. With a win this Saturday (Sept. 27) against Westminster College of Pennsylvania, B-W would have its best-ever start to a season and eclipse its 8-0-1 start in 2004-2005. With its loss, Allegheny fell to 2-6-0 overall.

B-W jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 23:34 mark of the first half when sophomore forward Tyler Leister (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) scored his fourth goal of the season from a through ball pass from senior midfielder Andy Synk (Strongsville). Synk’s assist was his team-leading seventh of season. The Yellow Jackets maintained their 1-0 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Allegheny scored an early equalizer only 53 seconds into the second stanza off a header from D.J. Egan. The score remained tied until the 80:35 mark when junior midfielder Charlie Thompson (Huron) scored the game-winner off a shot that was deflected by an Allegheny player.

In goal for B-W, junior Russ Mika (Medina/ Senior) faced nine Gator shots and made four saves, improving his record to 4-0 on the season.

B-W won the battle of shots, 15-9 and corners, 5-1.

Junior Co-Captain Nate Smith discusses the home field advantage in our latest player blog.........

Teams love the chance to play in their home stadium on their own field for many different reasons. For some it can be the comfort of playing where you train during the week. For others it is not having a long uncomfortable bus ride to some remote location. And other it is simply catching a nap in the afternoon before you hit the field. However, here at Baldwin-Wallace we love to play at home for a completely different reason, the fans. Whether it is our parent’s coming straight from work to cheer us on or our grandparents making the trip we love the support our fans give us. There is one particular group that the players all love to play in front of and they are the BW Hooligans. Made up of college students who paint their bodies and wear funny clothing, they come to our games and give us an atmosphere that no other college can match. They provide energy, emotion, and craziness that really makes it hard for the opposing team. The team knows that when we pull on our jersey’s and get ready to play that the fans, whether it's parents or friends, are going to cheer us to victory every time we play at home and that is what a home field advantage is all about.
